Plain-English definitions of the slot, casino and sportsbook terms that come up on every call — from RTP and volatility to RGS, GGR and bet builder.

Game math

RTP (Return to Player)
The share of total stakes a game is designed to pay back to players over millions of rounds, expressed as a percentage. A 96% RTP means 4% is the theoretical house edge. RTP is a long-run average, not a per-session guarantee, and is often configurable per jurisdiction.
Volatility / Variance
How a game's wins are distributed. High-volatility games pay larger amounts less often; low-volatility games pay smaller amounts more frequently. Two games can share the same RTP and feel completely different because their volatility differs.
Hit frequency
How often a spin returns any win, as a percentage of rounds. A 25% hit frequency means roughly one in four spins pays something. It is tuned alongside volatility to shape the feel of play.
Max win
The capped maximum payout of a game, expressed as a multiple of the stake (e.g. 10,000×). The max-win cap is a core lever in the math model and a headline feature for players.
RNG (Random Number Generator)
The certified algorithm that produces each outcome. An RNG must pass independent lab testing for statistical randomness before a game can go live in a regulated market.

Slot mechanics

Paylines & ways to win
The patterns across the reels that pay when matching symbols land. 'Ways to win' games drop fixed lines in favour of any-position matches across adjacent reels.
Megaways-style
A mechanic where the number of symbols per reel changes each spin, producing a large, variable number of ways to win. A popular high-variability format for modern slots.
Cluster pays
Wins are formed by groups of adjacent matching symbols rather than fixed paylines, usually on a larger grid with symbols cascading in to replace wins.
Wild & scatter
A wild substitutes for other symbols to complete wins; a scatter pays or triggers features (such as free spins) regardless of position on the reels.
Free spins & bonus round
A triggered feature that awards spins at no extra stake, often with multipliers or modified reels. The bonus round is usually where a slot's largest wins are concentrated.

Fast games

Fast / instant games
Short-session titles that resolve in seconds — crash, dice, mines, limbo, plinko, wheel, keno and coin flip. Built for high-frequency play and strong cross-sell with sportsbook audiences.
Crash game
A multiplier rises from 1× and can crash at any moment; players cash out before it does. A provably-fair, high-tempo format that defined the fast-game category.
Provably fair
A cryptographic scheme (server seed, client seed and nonce) that lets a player verify after the fact that a round's outcome was not manipulated. Common on crypto-native platforms and fast games.

Platform & integration

RGS (Remote Gaming Server)
The server that runs game logic, holds the math and reports rounds, exposed to the operator through a standard API. Integrating an RGS once is what lets an operator run many titles without per-game engineering.
PAM (Player Account Management)
The operator's core platform for player accounts, wallets, bonusing and compliance. Games connect to the PAM through the wallet API.
Aggregator
A single integration that gives an operator access to many game studios at once — one API, one wallet, one contract and one certification path instead of one of each per studio. See our game aggregator.
Seamless vs transfer wallet
In a seamless (single) wallet, bets and wins debit and credit the operator's wallet in real time per round; in a transfer wallet, funds move into and out of the game session. Both are standard integration options.
Certification
Independent lab testing of a game's RNG and math against a jurisdiction's rules — commonly GLI, MGA, UKGC and Curaçao — before it can go live there. Lab fees are typically paid by the operator to the lab.

Commercial

GGR (Gross Gaming Revenue)
Total stakes minus total wins — the revenue a game or operator keeps before costs and bonuses. The usual basis for revenue-share deals.
NGR (Net Gaming Revenue)
GGR after deductions such as bonuses, promotional costs, fees and sometimes taxes. The figure many commercial terms ultimately settle on.
Revenue share
A commercial model where the content partner is paid a percentage of GGR rather than a fixed fee, with little or no upfront cost — aligning the partner's earnings with the game's performance.
Exclusive / proprietary content
Games built for and licensed to a single operator, never resold to others. Exclusivity is what lets a brand differentiate from competitors running the same aggregated catalogue.

Sportsbook

Pre-match & in-play
Pre-match betting is placed before an event starts; in-play (live) betting is placed during it, on fast-changing markets priced in real time by the trading operation.
Bet builder
A feature that lets a player combine several markets from the same event into one priced bet — now an expected part of a modern sportsbook.
Cash out
Settling a bet early for a value the book offers before the event finishes — full or partial — to lock in a return or cut a loss.
Trading & risk management
The operation that sets odds and margins and manages liability across markets. In a turnkey sportsbook this is run for the operator rather than staffed in-house.
